This is new to me since my brain surgeries but I've realized if there's too much going on around me I start getting my aura and eventually a seizure happens. I'm wondering if anyone else gets this or have heard of this? Is it common?

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member yes over stimulation can cause auras and seizures. For example, my triggers are phone screens, or of any kind. Reading can be a trigger for me. Watching movies at theaters can be. So I try to refrain from viewing these things too long. Loud sounds also can affect me.

Yes it can. A very long time ago when I was younger. I was tuning ten so I had a lot going on probably one of the best and busiest weekends I ever had then right at the end on Monday I had a seizure.

Yes, sensory overload can trigger seizures in some people with epilepsy. While everyone's triggers are different, stress and environmental stimulation are known seizure triggers. When there's too much happening around you, it can create both physical and emotional stress on your system, potentially leading to seizures.

It's helpful that you're recognizing your auras in these situations. Auras can include various sensations like unusual smells, tastes, visual disturbances, or feelings of déjà vu. These warning signs give you a chance to move to a safer, calmer environment when you feel overwhelmed. To better manage this trigger, consider keeping a seizure journal to track when overstimulation occurs and leads to seizures. This information can be valuable for both you and your healthcare provider in developing strategies to avoid or minimize exposure to overwhelming situations. Some MyEpilepsyTeam members have found that removing themselves from overstimulating environments when they notice their aura helps prevent seizure progression.
