One MyEpilepsyTeam member shared experiencing the smell of cardboard before having a grand mal seizure, noting they only had about two seconds between smelling it and the seizure starting. If you experience these smell-related auras, use them as a warning sign to take immediate safety precautions. Try to quickly get to a safe place or alert someone nearby that you're about to have a seizure. Work with your neurologist to develop a specific action plan that fits your situation.

Well 2 wks ago while getting a haircut It's the 1st time aura as the lights but I felt a change. Next thing I remember the guys helping me to a set. I asked what happened and the barber said u had an episode. So I didn't remember when he finished. But I've heard of the aura but never experienced until then. So I'm nervous about certain lights. It's a shame I've been going to this barber for years.

My simple partials had the smell of bleach, or acetone. On occasion I still ask my wife "Do you smell that?" I'm relieved when she does. I recently had my truck detailed at Ziebart; whatever they use for their interior fabric protection is an even better description. Olfactory hallucination.

Yes! For me it can be different smells like the smell of burning wires for example.
