What's Main Side Effect Of AEDs
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

As epileptic people must have to use AEDs possibly whole life, I am wondering that what kind of side effects one can expect and precautions to avoid these.

That's true better ask epilepsy team instead to pharmacist or a neurologist, as they have limited exposure and will tell what is written on its study etc.
But here at my epilepsy team there are many people who share their own experiences.

A big percentage of AED meds have the side effects of
Feeling tired
Drowsy
Anxiety
Dizziness
Dry mouth

Other than those all medications have different side effects . Everyone also reacts differently the meds .

Best side effects of AEDs is to control epileptic seizures. Many diff types for all types of seizures now. Look at epelipsy thru history not nuff known bout brain to even explain seizures tll 1920s. Was glad when diagnosed 50 years ago to know why with meds to help. Listen only to Dr bout best way for your own. Any bad sides Dr will take you off or switch them. Been on same over 50 years no prob. Why some are anti med now is weird. Be glad we can avoid the nasty seizures + sides from those I'd be terrified of that. Focus on yourself see how meds help like any other physical not mental issue.

Actually as a 55 year old, i know better. They dont usually tell us everything. Long term; they affect absorption of vitamins and minerals. Add yourself. Digestive system gets whacky…You need to watch your immune system because white blood cell level is often minimal. All these things seem to set up our bodies to receive AEDs but take care of vitamins for energy. .

I think that is ask your doc or pharmacist, you can get the info from them, but after that I think you'll have a idea of what you are to expect, but after that I think you will try out and see the effects of the medication you take, my opinion
