Looking to get some information prior to starting a family appears the neurologist at my hospital does not want me to take carbamazepine as well as levitracetam.
Daily I take
1200mg of tegretol
1500mg of levitracetam
Also did anyone who was trying for a baby change medication beforehand and if so how was this experience?
When I became pregnant I was lucky because at that time I was completely off medicine. I didn't know that I was pregnant until the 7th month. Then my doctor put me back on medication. I had to get blood tests every week. When I had my son, he was still born and came to life. My neurologist wanted my son to get a shot of medication because he was getting some when I took my medicine.
I've been an epileptic since infant, been on many medications. I have four healthy adult children without any side effects!! I was never told of any effects my children would have by me being on my medications. Their father was more concerned about me having the epidural so I had all my kids without it!!!
When I found out I was pregnant with my son, I was on a combination of Epival and Lamotrogine. My meds were also changed. Same with my daughter. I found that the worst part was altering the times I was taking them, to make sure they got into my bloodstream! Lol Other than thatI enjoyed boh of my pregnacies!
I would definitely agree with the Folic Acid!! Most seizure meds deplete it from your system and it is a huge cause of birth defects.
Long before I ever thought about being pregnant my doctors had me on FOLIC ACID. I was pregnant 16 years ago.
