It pays to investigate all that is involved with the surgery. Has the surgeon performed the surgery before? What was successful? Can one put up with 6 months of testing to find out if you are good candidate for the surgery? Surgery is never guaranteed to bring you back to your normal. But a successful surgery is satisfying. Ask 9999 questions until you are 99% certain you have made the right choice.
In 2004 surgery was suggested and I jumped on it, six months for recovery and have had minimal amount of seizures with my last one in December of 2011. I have been on Vimpat since 2012 and now the generic version since June of 2022. Surgery was a Left Fronto-Temporal Parietal Craniotomy for Left Temporal Lobectomy, Hippocampectomy.
I had my brain surgery done in 1998 . There are 2 things that have to be done , before going straight to the Surgery.
1. Are you a Candidate for the surgery
2. Are you willing or confident to do it.
I was all for it , when the brain surgery was brought up to me, by my Epileptologist.
With all due respect, I would never have brain surgery for my epilepsy.
