I have tried 6 meds and considered vns, which is where I first heard this notion that your chances of finding a med that works even minimally drops to 4% after having tried 5 medications for seizures. My neurologist adamantly
disagreed, but I thought 30% of people with epilepsy were considered intractable.
Thanks friends
I think that would be your call and your docs, I have gotten my meds dosage lower than prescribed but they are more stable than before, so that is my opinion here
I have been on so many different medications. My doctor suggested the VNS. After a few weeks of thinking about it. I decided to get the surgery. I had the surgery this past August.
I now wear a bracelet that my doctor gave me. Now if I get an aura I swipe it over my chest where the put another magnet that is connected to my vagus nerve. That will send a charge to my brain to prevent my seizures occur. It does not stop all of my seizures. But it has prevented a lot of seizures from happening

According to articles on this site and my neurologist,, 70% of all seizures types can be controlled by medication.
I’ve been on 6 different meds and several med combos and still have seizures. So I had the vns device put in it didn’t work either plus it is slightly painful when it goes off. Nothing bad just annoying pain. It destroys your voice and causes lots of extra phlegm in your throat. I wouldn’t recommend it.
I'm on my 9th trial medication and have tried many combinations. Nothing works as yet. I prefer to stick to the meds I know work.
