My dr just always said “no unplanned pregnancies for you”. I started on Epilim (sodium valproate), but doctor said it’s not advisable for women at childbearing age because it may cause serious birth defects even up to 5 years after not using those meds anymore. So I switched to Lamotrigine. So if you are planning on having kids, discuss this with your neurologist to make sure you are on meds that are safe for your unborn child. He/she will also have to guide and monitor you before and during pregnancy.
My pregnancy was very much planned I was on a safe medication for pregnancy I.e keppra and I was prescribed 5mg of folic acid which I took 6 months before trying and the whole duration to prevent birth defects. Dont rely on pre natal vitamin alone the folic acid in it isn't enough I took the 5mg of folic acid and a pre natal vitamin you can't overdose on folic acid you basically pee out anything your body doesn't need. Baby was born perfectly healthy. My epilepsy has since become refractory so I don't plan for anymore children as the medication I have to take now is deemed unsafe.

Yes a woman with Epilepsy can have healthy babies. I recommend hat you work with your doctor about what medication is safe for a developing fetus and works for you.
I have two healthy adult sons. I was put on Tregretol for pregnancy. The big problem for me was I am allergic to Tegretol. The drug nearly killed me while delivering my second son. It attacked my platelets and shut down my bone marrow. I nearly bled to death after delivering due to too few platelets.
