Is There A Connection Between High Blood Pressure And Seizures?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

What I mean by this is lately I’ve been feeling really bad my high blood pressure has been elevated in. I have felt like I have been in a constant aura out of it all the time. Doctors have raise my Keppra level. I’m on the VNS. Cardiologist are trying to get a medication straight from my blood pressure that’s not working none of the medication’s are working right now. I’m wondering if they’re playing off of one another decisions in the blood pressure. My head is hurting off the charts.

My dad and brother both have high blood pressure but I’m the one with epilepsy and I’ve never had any problems. However, living with seizures can be very stressful and depressing and that might raise your blood pressure.

I had blood pressure problems in 2018-2019. My headaches were crazy! I had the VNS put in 2001. I was put on zonegran. Walked the dog for a long walk. Initially balance was a problem. I was on Keppra and Klonopin. I made sure a drank 64 Oz. A day. Drinking fluid helped my BP go down along w/ eating differently. Had 3 meals a day w/ vegetables in it. I had mini snacks nuts w/ no salt. Mini rice cakes ! I lost weight. My BP went down . The echo cardio gram Normal after 3 months. My friend told me to go on a program 5/1 diet. 1 normal meal w/ products the company had. I noticed she lost a lot of weight. I learned to jog and run. My seizures went down too. I got off Klonopin and lessened Keppra. I worked in an emergency room. My seizures were under control. For me gradually walking everyday. Went a block longer everyday until I walked 40 minutes. Met people , we walked together. My blood pressure changed when we moved now it’s getting better by walking and cutting temptations. I have met new neighbors and my weight dropped 5 lbs. I am taking Xcopri and 0.5 of Onfi. The Onfi stopped auras and flurries. My kicker was all the take out food has a lot of salt. I am lowering that now 120/80. It usually 108/ 70. When I had blood pressure seizures were crappy. This is what helped me was walking and eating smaller portion 5 times a day! I wish you the best!

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member, i used to take zonegran which is also called Zonisamide, and it gave me issues with my heart. Here is a link of Zonisamide to give you an idea of what you are dealing with, https://medlineplus.gov/druginfo/meds/a603008.html

As Toni3 mentioned, taking yourself off of Keppra (The Rage) will help greatly. There could be a connection of high blood pressure due to the medications and vitamin supplements one is taking. When i was taking Keppra my bp rose and the side effects from it made things worse. Talking to my neurologist about being removed from Keppra helped a lot. Except i didn't change my diet like Toni3 did. Ouch! I should have done that. Hope you and your doctor can work something out in a positive direction.
