What benzo are they going to put in place of the Klonopin(Clonazepam)? I only ask because I was on 2mg of Clonazepam twice daily and Xanax 1mg 3 times daily, for 12 years. It obviously hasn't been working AT ALL, so they dropped the Clonazepam and added Diazepam(Valium) 10mg and said I can take it 7, 10mg Valium DAILY and dropped my Xanax to 1mg twice daily. I haven't even attempted to take 7 Valium in a day, Id never be awake. But if you have any personal preferences on what you think works better, I see a new Neurologist on the 13th and right now I take Keppra, Valium, Xanax and Gabapentin (I don't take that because it makes me feel drunk) but I am totally open to suggestions because I am getting so much worse than I've ever been, and with us trying to get moved, and my seizures totally transforming into something I have never experienced before, it's making it very hard and very very depressing.
Good educational comments re: the spikes. She went to a formal neurologist today. He took her off the Clonazepam (Clon). Yes, there were EEG and MRI done in the hospital. The neurologist will do it again. After these results, he will be replacing the Clon with another med. I appreciate your interest.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member Well it really depends on what the cause of the seizure is as it is possible to have a seizure and the cause to be completely unrelated to Epilepsy. If it is related to Epilepsy there would be some kind of damage to one of the lobes in the brain. The other thing you would have is unusual spikes on EEG which aren't always seizures but there basically just spikes caused by unusual brain activity that is caused by damage.
I’m assuming a EEG and MRI would have both been done?
Look I'm Sorry to hear this news but the best thing you can do is to try to get the seizures under control. Thankfully seizures can be controlled pretty well these days.
Yes, that is correct. My daughter in law, normal all her life with 3 little boys, had that TC last week. She was told "all tests were positive", but they did place her on Carpazipine (sp) and told her not to drive. I don't believe that "all tests were positive." I'm not a doctor, nor saying that the level of tests or the competence of those doing the testing is negative. But, with over 25 years of experience with Ep, there was some action that caused negative interrations of brain electricity. More tests have to be done. Thanks for your inquiry.
Do you mean someone who had a TC and then never had any more seizures?
