My sons “pcp” said that foods can cause and trigger a seizure and was wondering if that is really true or not been googling a lot but not if google is telling me the truth or not
Okay awesome so I’m not crazy just feel crazy at times and he don’t eat much grain foods which is good we as a family only eat bread/buns like maybe once a month but it’s not very often we cut bread/buns out over five years our pasta is gluten free and pancake mix is also gluten free which makes them taste really weird but it’s just something we had to do so it was a huge adjustment !!!!!
"The Epilepsy Foundation" that is the sponser of this site recognizes the following:
A Ketogenic diet (eliminating simple carbohydrates/sugars may help reduce seizures.
Stimulants like caffeine can cause seizures for some people.
Many foods/diets have been studied but haven't provided conclusive evidence of "food sensitivity and epilepsy"
Grape fruit is also one that gets brought up a lot.
I would agree for a lot of people grain foods can be triggering. Some more than others. For me, when I remove grains I feel amazing but I can function a lot better even when sticking to only slice of bread/grain a day. If you can remove grains now when he is younger I would recommend it. Before he is older and has cravings and emotional attachments to food. That’s what is hard for me. I suggest reading or listening to the grain brain book and it discusses seizures and children. Dr. Permutter who wrote it also is a neurologist and nutritionalist. It is worth trying as it can stop seizures. Most neurologist won’t even consider this, so it’s pretty great that yours as willing to work with your child rather than just medication.
I believe that certain foods can be a trigger for some but not necessarily others and vice versa. You will notice a trend over time if there is a food or certain foods are triggering szs. In general, try to avoid non organic foods, whenever possible (esp. fruits and veggies). Stay away from artificial sweeteners (aspertame, etc.). Not yet sure on the more natural ones (Monk Fruit, Stevia, etc.) yet. Still doing some research on those. Want to get hubby off of reg. sugar and onto Monk Fruit but not sure if that is a general trigger food yet.
