Has Anyone Here Done The Seer Eeg/ecg Video Monitoring Treatment?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'm doing this in a few weeks I'm just wondering what it was like and whether it had any impact on your current treatment.

Thanks.

Hi @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , I’m 44 & have had seizures since the 2nd grade after hitting my head on the monkey bars but no one knows for sure if I got them from that, my Dad or both. My Dad had bad grand mal seizures. Dad’s seizures didn’t start till after my parents were married & they don’t know what caused them. My seizures aren’t as frequent or severe as some peoples however I don’t have auras & so I don’t always know I’ve had a seizure unless I notice something is odd or someone witnesses it like my Mom or stepdad who I still live at home with. When I began seeing my current Neurologist in November 2019, she had me do a 5 day in hospital video EEG. Since my seizures aren’t frequent or severe, I didn’t have any seizures, however they said that while I slept the EEG showed mostly Focalized seizure activity but some Generalized seizure activity. My Neurologist took me off my Trileptal & put me on Vimpat & I later asked why & she said that long term use could possibly harm the liver. My Pediatric Neurologist had put me on the Trileptal & I probably took it for 10 years or a little more with very little problems. I’m still on the Depakote that my Pediatric Neurologist started me on. I saw him for over 20 years, until I was around 30. Good luck with your EEG. You might take something to keep you busy while you’re there, like a book or something to color or a word search, etc. I hope the doctors find the information they need. Good luck. I have been involved since the inception in Australia of the SEER forecasting app, I send them daily updates and if I have an episode I advise them of the whole episode and it’s after effects which can last for hours, also my Fitbit is connected to the SEER system…my professor is then copied the events on my weekly report…

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , That’s what I thought it meant but I’ve never heard of anything being done that way & so before I wrote to you I Googled the word “Seer” & “ECG” but I didn’t know they could do both at the same time. Sorry but I don’t know anything about that. But I have had the in hospital video EEG that I told you about, as well as an at home video EEG a few years ago & I would bet it’s been years that I’ve had a regular in office EEG done. Good luck. @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member Thanks for your reply I had an at-home 3-day eeg last year and from what I was told there were 2 seizures "incidents" that i didn't even know about as my Nuroligest put it. This particular eeg isn't like the current eeg treatments. In summary, it's basically the idea of using the eeg and hart rate monitoring to develop what they call seizure tracking and then turning this into seizure forecasting.

This is the best information I found about it:

I never heard of SEER-EEG-ECG. I have been monitored in NEEG labs! I was on the unit for weeks at a time. They did put an ECG monitor each time along with EMG monitors. Tests were given in the room. We got magazines, puzzles and walks down the hall near our room. Most of the time, in bed. Stroke patients were given MRI ‘s. This was in the 80’s and 90’s. When I worked things were on paper to read. When I got pregnant they converted the labs to computers! Yea! Less paper !

They nicely tied me bed. I had running seizures and hugging. Etc.

I had a patient hang on the drapes! Another pinched herself! Just an example!

New things are great for diagnosis!
