I am currently learning how to drive. For those that do drive how did you overcome the fear and get your license? Did you practice every day? What helped you get your license? I need advice

I have had my license since my diagnosis I have not driven for about 5.5 months. Dr. wanted to be sure the meds are working then I am only to use side roads for about month then I can use freeways again I had to take driver's Ed @ rehab hospital 8-9 times I did not realize I had epilepsy back then but I was not siezing . I kept passing my test finally they gave up & took my restrictions off. Fortunately I never fainted when driving but now that I know the risk I am very good about my meds I know not to miss them I carry a pill fob on a lanyard arroud my neck. If you take your meds on time you should be okay depending on what type of epilepsy you have. I am quite nervous about driving again soon. I have been fixing my truck's alternator and doing other repairs while it has been parked. The best thing to do is check with your neurologist & see what they recommend? I am back to driving but only backroads freeways after the 28th of December. 😉

I am so sorry about ya’ll experiences. My condolences to your dad Becky @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I am so sorry you and everyone had to go through horrible situations. I am doing everything I can to stay positive because I know anything can happen and I don’t want nothing bad to happen. Plus it is just I know a lot of people like to race now and they can crash into any car. That is another reason I am worried about. Racing is a huge problem and the accidents that happen out of no where. And the big trailers. My family plans on teaching me.

I don’t want to get my license. I tried having it twice. Had 2 car accidents because of having a seizure while driving.
Second one I took out a telephone pole. The front end of the car ended up in someone’s driveway right against the steps.
Several days later I had a chance to see the area where the accident happened. There were toys in the yard. All that keeps coming back to mind is what if there had been children playing out there when it happened. I could have killed somebody.
I’ve never been able to shake it. Basically the stress of driving seems to set off seizures for me. I find that I am better off NOT to drive.
I didn’t get my license back because next time I might not be so lucky. If I have a seizure while driving, I might kill myself or someone else.
