I know that during seizures a symptom can be crying, and I know that it's possible to have partial focal seizures you're not even aware of. I've also been told that overall with epilepsy, increased mood swings, depression, and crying overall can occur. My question is, does every random occurrence of sudden crying mean a seizure is occurring or is that just a symptom of having epilepsy but not necessarily a seizure?
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , I wouldn’t think the sudden outburst of crying would be a seizure & I say this because in June 2021 I had a really bad anxiety attack & it first started with me saying to myself “I can’t, I’m stupid” & then for 25 minutes I began crying & hollering at the top of my lungs & shaking & we didn’t know what was going on. Finally after 25 minutes I had my Mom try calling my Neurologist but it was almost 5pm & so they didn’t answer & so I texted a lady at our Epilepsy Foundation & told her I just had a big break down or something & she called & I to let my Mom talk to her cause again the crying & hollering & shaking started again. She suggested we go to the hospital & the hospital believed it was a really bad anxiety attack & my Neurologist agreed. A few years ago, I began crying & my vision got blurry & at the time my Family doctor was prescribing my seizure medicine & he thought maybe it was the Trileptal that could’ve caused that & so he adjusted my dosage & I was ok I guess. In November 2019 my current Neurologist switched me from my Trileptal to Vimpat. But you might mention your crying episodes to your doctor & they might have an idea of what’s causing it. Well, I hope you don’t have anymore. Your friend in Texas, Becky
