Epilepsy Vs. ADHD
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Recently I have had a few friends diagnosed with ADHD. It looks different in adults than it does in kids. I took the preliminary symptom questions and I had so many. They are also symptoms that I have b/c of the seizures/meds. Is there anyone out there that has been diagnosed as an adult with ADHD? I guess some people could have both, but they seem so close to one another, that it could be easy to be mis-diagnosed with ADHD on top of epilepsy.

I think it might be because of the seizure activity in your head. I have it at times also.

I will tell you that the types of neuropsychological rehabilitation I received after the TBI definitely help me when I am trying to organize my thinking and my schedule. But even that lags now after so many years of seizures. I am lucky if I can remember the cognitive tools, let alone use them.
So yes, I think there are a lot of similarities between the effects of Epilepsy, ADHD, and cognitive loss from TBI, on memory and cognitive function. But I don’t think the terms are interchangeable.

I get vertigo sometimes too. I just thought that could be one of the side effects from the meds.

Nicole I read some time later that they were testing that very thing in European countries. You could be correct as well. There may not be only one reason/cause.

We uncovered in the HOBSCOTCH program that one of the reasons I feel the need to interupt is because my short term memory is so bad I need to say things before they evaporate.
