Medicinal Cannabis
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Interested to know people's experiences on using medicinal cannabis prescribed by their consultant especially people in the UK.Info from the US members would be useful I have uncontrolled partial seizures which turn into status for 24hours +. I've heard some consultants in the UK have begun using this I thought it was still illegal Thanks

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member - Here is what I've learned (I think). There are 3 types of strains. Sativa has less THC and more CBD, although you can still get high on it. Take one or two puffs if you need to clear the brain fog and get some energy. Cannatonic is a Sativa.

Indica is at the other end of the spectrum; more THC and less CBD. You have to look at the description of the strains. These you usually take at night and help you sleep, but a few are energizing. For example, I love how I feel on Tahoe OG, but I don't sleep well with it.

Then there are hybrids, and again, you just need to read the descriptions to know what side effects are expected.

Does that answer your question?

Depends on the seizures that affect you and also drug interactions. It helps a ton with pain. I warn, though, If you get too much THC into your system, you might get super paranoid. If you get seizures due to emotions, I recommend making sure the cannabis you are taking is low THC or mostly CBD. There are ratios you can look at. They show them at dispensaries. Cannabis like Harlequin, Ringo’s Gift, Cannatonic, CBD edibles are fine.

I briefly stopped dabbling in cannabis because I think it might be interacting with my lamotrigene, but i'm pretty sure the interaction was more the result of the shit lamotrigene that I no longer take.

Yeah, my doc wouldn't say that she recommends it, but she also shrugged her shoulders and said it's up to me if I want to give it a try.

the oil in the UK is legal in most places as my doctor has been talking about it as a resort if my medication doesnt start working soon enough but ive started smoking it and ive noticed it helps a little especially if you get alot of side effects from medication as i do myself and also helps after a seizure.
