Can I Get More Information On Surgery For Epilepsy?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have open nerve in brain. Wondering if anyone has information on surgery for me. I have asked my neurologist she said it was too dangerous that they would do more damage than good. I am hoping to get a second opinion and any information will help greatly. Thank you all!!

My next neurologist apt is this summer but I'll be seeing someone new. My previous dr. retired! Probably won't get anything done but a meet n greet.

You'll have to get a stereo eeg done to narrow down where your seizures start. They was able to do my surgery because all my seizures started in one place. If the eeg shows seizures starting everywhere they probably won't want to do surgery. It may do more harm than good.

Hi. I had brain surgery for my epilepsy almost 6 years ago. I only got bad side effects- I did not benefit from it at all.

You may want to try and call the Epilepsy Foundation, nearest you. They could possibly help find a better qualified Dr. , like a Epileptologist and get a second opinion from him/her .

There are some of us who truly weren’t qualified to have the brain surgery.

Whatever happens I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. I too wish they could just go in my brain and fix something so this horrible disease stops. A second opinion isn't a bad idea, but also if you don't completely understand what the problem is and why she thinks surgery won't work, don't be afraid to ask her to explain it in simple terms so you completely understand even if it takes a separate appointment to do so. My 15 minute neurology appointments are so short it's hard to really talk about much. I'll be sending good thoughts and energy your way.
