My doctors have been trying to use medication to control my seizures for nearly 9 years. Doctors appointments are starting to feel like a waste of my time. Should I keep giving medications a shot despite the lack of success or push for a surgery evaluation? I had an appointment today that led to my family and I arguing like children.
Over the last 42 years I've been on so many combinations of meds Controlled for a few years ,then not blah blah What works for 1 person doesn't work for others I guess I'm one of the unlucky ones I hope you find medications that help Stay safe
A lot of people will not have total control ever no matter what medications are taken. I think that's call refractory something like that. There isn't any problem just having an assessment done. You don't have to give an answer If a Dr doesn't think its right or does for you they will say they have the knowledge experience and reputations
They might find the right combination to control your seizure. It can take time.
Then there are people like myself. Who have be on the majority of meds . The ones that I haven’t been are the generic brands of the name brand meds , that I’ve already been on. I’ve been on so many combinations of meds And non. Of them has controlled my seizures 100% .
Today my Epileptologist is out of paths to take with me. I learned at a epilepsy conference that those of us who haven’t found the right combination of meds , we have a 5% chance of finding any at all. I’m in that category myself.
Push for a surgery evaluation. It doesn’t hurt b/c at least they can evaluate you and you can always back out of surgery if you want to. I’ve been on meds forever but can’t have surgery. If you can take less meds or ideally no meds, I’d go for it🙂
depends on the type and kind. for me, it did little to nothing for my seizures. but i have a rare case. DO NOT TRY surgery before trying other things. some drs try meds and surgery. but other drs try alternative meds. research everything. if you come to a conclusion that surgery is the way. then go for it. i am just telling you, the pros and cons of surgery and without surgery.
