Fycoma- Has Anyone Experienced Coordination Problems And Excessive Salivation (dribbling/drooling)
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

So since upping my dose of Fycompa I’ve struggled to walk in a straight line, walk into things and stagger when walking. I also dribble when talking and when sitting still. I wonder if the two are linked or I’m just being overprecautious?
Any experience would be highly appreciated 💕

Yeah it does- my neuro said perampanel works in a different way to other AEDs and blocks something or other 😂
My seizures have reduced but I’m not completely seizure free unfortunately so the concoction is helpful (I’m on lamictal too).
I chose life too but a functional life without limitations as a result of epilepsy. Seizures were more uncontrolled prior to starting this meds requiring frequent hospital admissions (hence why rescues have been prescribed too).
I’m a complicated one, I don’t feel like I have much choice particularly because my job requires seizure free periods unfortunately. I love my job too.
Plus My boyfriend wants kids and I wouldn’t unless I could ensure I could provide the best possible life for him/her

I've been on Fycompa since it was still in trial in Australia. I've called it my life saver. I managed 5 years seizure free. Although the universe's decided this year that the seizures would start again. Currently on the max of 12mg with Lamictal 500mg and a range of meds for anxiety.
I find the Fycompa makes me very dizzy but I take it at bed time. If I'm feeling stressed or not enough sleep it can make me feel nauseous and dribble. But the dribbling seems more when I'm sleeping.
My tip is just take it before bed and get a waterproof pillow protector!😉 Having had 5 years seizure free is worth every embarrassing or frustrating moment from 1 medication. It's about what will be better quality of life for you, reduced seizures vs side effects

The most common side effects of FYCOMPA include: dizziness; sleepiness; tiredness; irritability; falls; nausea and vomiting; weight gain; vertigo (sense of spinning); problems walking normally; problems with muscle coordination; headache; bruising; abdominal pain; anxiety

This is what I've found to be the most common type of side effects from this medication. Hope this helps you.
