Looking For Helpful Advice For Looking After A New Born Baby When Having Epilepsy
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello ladies,
With my epilepsy I get a blackout every 5-6 weeks
I'm now pregnant and I'm expecting a baby nxt November.
I'm wondering what did any of ye other ladies do in 1st few years of raising a small child?
Any safety precaution I can take??
Any advice you could give me would be appreciated.
Kind regards,
Carmel

If you have a family member that can help out at least until the baby sleeps through the night that would be best. With my first I was trying to do it all and had two breakthrough grand mal seizures after being without any for years. With my second I gave in and let my husband and mom stay up with the baby at night while I slept. It’s hard to accept but the baby will be ok and you will have less of a chance of having a seizure.

Just rest when you can don’t over do the house work save your energy to taking care of yourself and the baby, keep hydrated anytime you are at rest especially if you are Brest feeding you need to be drinking ,always have a bottle of water eat good healthy meals and take your medications, I had no problems because I know what my body can take . Don’t allow to over do.

I napped when my daughter napped , when Melissa was little she had a alphabet tracks they were the actual alphabet letters that hooked together for a track and seasame street bus ran on them . I taught her abc, her name where she lived her phone and how and when to use 911 she knew all this at the age of 4. I always felt guilty for having to depend on her it wasn’t supposed to be like that but she has always been there for me
