Sleepy Medication
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone wake up in the morning after having a seizure free night and feeling bright and full of energy. Then you take your first lot of medication of the day and all you want to do is sleep.

I have a hard time waking up and getting out of bed do to meds. Just seems like I can’t get enough sleep. I used to get up at around 530-6 fairly easily then when we increased my meds it’s super hard to get up by 8.

I used to be constantly sleepy and then I saw something about calcium and magnesium helping. I got in touch with my epilepsy nurse and she said it was perfectly safe to take these supplements, so I now take a supplement made up of 1000mg calcium, 400mg magnesium and 15mg zinc. The tablets are sugar, salt and starch free and also suitable for vegans. I was told to take one at night when I take my night time medication and it gives me a better quality of sleep. I wake up feeling a lot more refreshed and am not half as tired as I used to be. I got them on Amazon. 250 tablets made by a brand called Solgar. They weren’t expensive, will last for ages and have made such a good difference that I really would recommend them to anyone who is having problems with tiredness. Unfortunately, they don’t help the tiredness you get just after taking a seizure - but I don’t think that anything would help that.
