Stopped Taking My Seizure Meds
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Stopped taking my seizure meds, nothing bad had happened in 3 months. Am I taking too much of a risk?

Before you think about stopping on your meds, you should talk with your Dr. maybe he/she can decrease your meds down a little . You definitely shouldn’t take yourself off your meds. If your meds are stopping you from seizuring , that’s a great thing to hear. Not all of us can control our seizures with 4 or less brands of medications.

If you can keep your seizures under controlled, you could try for your drivers license. If you already have one more power to you. That would be another good reason for not taking yourself off your meds. If you have a seizure that would take away your chance of driving.

stop taking meds cold turkey is not the safest thing you to do . You should call your doctor right away and talk to him/her. It's always safer to have the doctors decrease the meds.

I stopped taking meds when i was younger and they stopped for a short period. think maybe since I was healthier, younger and in better shape it didnt affect as much until I got older but they did get worse and returned. Def speak to your doctor and speak on risks or even ask if he can slowly wean you off by lowering your dosages and then go from there. GOOD LUCK to you, a blessing if u are seizure free!

there is side effects when you suddenly stop taking meds. how long did you take the meds? the longer you you take the meds, the longer it will take to stop the meds. you need to ween the meds.
