A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone have experience with pregnancy while having medication-dependent epilepsy? If so, I’d really like to hear your story.

I was on Keppra when I was pregnant, normal birth, strong baby. No side effects! Older now and smart. Keppra controlled my seizures before, during and after my pregnancy. It’s the only seizure med that worked for me!

I was on Depakote while I was pregnant. Multiple side effects can be caused by Depakote. It was an unplanned pregnancy and my Dr and myself weighted the effects of being taken off of Depakote and risking a seizures or remain on the meds. I remained on my meds with the same dose and it actually almost seemed like it helped my seizures. I was seizure free for the length of my pregnancy. My daughter is 17 now and healthy and has no health issues from the meds. I wasn't able to breast feed but I was ok with that. She is our miracle baby i have been pregnant 2 more times and i was not able to carry the babies to full term. Epilepsy and pregnancy are so complicated because of all of the various situations for each person. You should sit down and have a serious conversation with your Dr. Your Dr can give you more information specific to your situation.
