How To Avoid The Epilepsy Talk
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

If you tell your gf/bf that u have this disease he/she sees u with pity then he/she tries to talk and want to know about this disease and u don't want to talk about it because u are as normal as u are .How to avoid this talk and tell them nothing is extra ordinary in u

Sometimes if people don't know anything about epilepsy, they are just trying to understand. I didn't tell my boyfriend (now husband) when we first began dating and I had a seizure one day in the car! It scared him to death he had no idea what to do.

I am normal. I live a regular life, I just take meds twice a day. At the end of the day, I think it is better to talk about it with your partner so they are aware on what to do, so they don't panic. But they shouldn't treat you any differently.

They will see eventually just be up front and honest and it if you don't want to talk about it, Don't. If they don't understand or are not alright with it then there not worth the effort anyway. The best advice I can give is just be yourself and stop worrying about it everyone has problems/ medical or life. Be happy be normal because we all are. Life is getting past day by day and some are good some are bad. Surround yourself with ppl that care and aren't so inept of something like a medical condition. Control it don't let it define you as a person

I will do so at my call, I don't let everyone know my condition, but if I have a seizure I will explain what has happened to me, I don't have a prob doing, my opinion
