VPS Therapy
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi everyone! Tomorrow I am seeing if I am a candidate for VPS therapy as I have uncontrolled seizures for about a year. Is there anything I need to prepare my self for? Is there any way I would not be a candidate. This VNS would be my last hope, my epilepsy is drug resistant.

Lots Of Love xoxo

I don't have experience with VPS, but if you had uncontrolled seizures for about a year I don't see how you wouldn't be a candidate for VPS. Best wishes and hope all goes well.

Do you mean the VNS Therapy ? The VNS is different for everyone . I did the VNS and it didn’t reduce my seizures. I was still having my average amounts. I’m also in a similar boat as you. My Meds don’t control my Seizures 100% . I’ve been on many different medication combinations.

I had a VNS put in 3/16, I think that is the correct month. It has been a life changer for the good, won’t get into those. In general your insurance and their policy might be the first hurdle. Seeing a specialist I’ll assume you’ve read the VNS material and know the side effects that are possible. Once in, figuring out the “shock” timing and strength requires patience. I thought it would be a quicker fix for some reason. I hope you get it but don’t get in my frame of mind for quick fix.

Are you asking or are you seeing another doctor? I asked and the doctor referred me over. The neurosurgeon appointment was just a formality to make sure I understood the VNS and that I knew the risk and that my questions were answered. I am now waiting for my surgery date. It is slowly coming.
