Memory Loss
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I know with epilepsy memory loss is very common. However my memory is getting worse and worse. It's so frustrating. It's starting to affect my relationships. Is there anything I can do that will help? I am considering seeing a GP about it. I take Keppra.

The memory loss is horrible isn't it!! I also suffered terrible memory loss. Both from all the seizures and from the meds. I started taking Prevagen, which actually seems to help restore some memory after a few months. The only problem is that it is a little expensive, and when you can't work that is difficult. .

If i may make a suggestion. I currently run my own medical equipment repair company. This week i have a total of 87 machines to inspect, 17 to repair and other business items. I made index cards that has a place for the job and date. I also lined the walls of my office with the material you would use to close in a shower with. I use dry erase markers and write notes on the wall using different colors for different items. Accept the fact some of is have memory problems and find a way to work around it.
Have fun with it.

My neurologist suggested , taking different routes to go places , puzzles (crossword etc) , and brain gym exercises to help with memory .

I have bad memory and is getting worse. My mother had Alzheimer’s and I’m very worried about it. I always wondered if the seizures I’ve had, some very bad and included head injury, have had an effect on my memory.

It is very common for memory loss with epilepsy but I have never have memory loss & have been told my memory is better then a lot of normal people. I take 15 pills a day for epilepsy & Keppra is one. I would speak to your doctor about your memory loss getting worse & if they have something to help you
