Does Anyone Else Have Weird Dreams?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Almost every night I have extremely vivid, sometimes lucid dreams and I usually wake up completely exhausted from them. When I was hospitalised earlier in the year my doctor said it was a symptom of night time seizures while I was sleeping (I have temporal lobe epilepsy). He increased my Topamax and the dreams stopped. About three months ago, the dreams started again. I went back to the doctor (had to see a different one). She increased my Topamax but the dreams won't stop. They're ruining my… read more

I have epilepsy and have had weird exhausting dreams at least once a week ever since the Dr. took me off Depakote about 5 years ago. He did it because the drug was damaging my liver. I have also been very depressed since he took me off it. My husband sometimes tells me I've seized in the night, I usually wake having bit my tongue very badly.

I don't take Topamax I take Depakote but I still have those vivid almost lucid dreams almost every night. I also know I have nocturnal seizures because I bite my tongue and it' hurts really bad when I wake up. I'm going to my nero in a few days and I'll bring it up.

I sometimes have very vivid or lucid dreams and I know when I've had a nocturnal seizure when I wake up in the morning with a badly bitten tongue.
I don't wake up while I'm biting it but the next morning it hurts like hell and sometimes even bleeds.
Other times I know I've seized is when I wake up sore from tensing, or very confused.
I think sometimes the dreams are kinda cool.

I like having really vivid dreams or lucid dreams, I was once so into my really vivid dream that after I woke up straight away I tried to get back to sleep and continue my really vivid dream and thankfully I did, literally, I do also sometimes wake up with a bitten tongue which probably means I’ve had a seizure in my sleep

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I have weird dreams nearly every night too. I'm currently on Depakote but I haven't been on it for as long as you were. I'm bi polar and sometimes get very depressed even though I'm still on it.
Like you I have night seizures and bite my tongue very badly to the point that it's hard to eat and swallow food for several days.
