Has Anyone Been On Or Is On The Medicine Fycompa?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

My neurologist has been suggesting this medication for over a year now. After hearing about it, and then doing my research on it, a few side effects have me and my family a bit concerned. I feel like i am stuck between a rock and a hard place. I need to get better control of my seizures, but the side effects have me a little intimidated. I don't know if i should bite the bullet and try the new medicine for a few months, and see how it works out, or see if he can come up with another course of… read more

Sometimes this website sucks. Deleted my post now and start again. Brittany your approach you're taking towards this drug seems to be correct. Every drug weather it's new or when you're putting in the rotation with others goes with trust. You have to believe it will help your situation. All you can do is try nobody knows your body like Britney does. Sometimes with a new drug it all might be how you take it with food without food whatever. My dr. Had me stagger them I was taking Keppra and Lamictal two hours apart from each other at night that help with the side effects I don't know what your doctor would like but all you can do is try see how it makes you feel. The one fear we have is the unknown, and sometimes the side effects we read or overwhelming there are so many generics so many different vendors that makes the se different on one to the next depending on who distributs it. Give it sometime see how u feel, just go into it its there to help u, but u have to look at it how u feel. Beleive in it Trust i had found is the key to all new meds. But its all trial and error maybe it ur Magic Bullet who knows but u never know till u try. :)

He is right - as they say "one mans trash is another mans treasure" - one medication that was horrible to me might be the wonder drug for you! Good you looked at the drug and everything - but don't overthink it ahead of time. and reading side effects ahead of time might make you think they are there - more than they are!
Keppra helps lots of others and was a bad drug for me (made me a bitch, mom screamed!)

try stuff out and give it a few weeks...then tell doc what you think

Brittney I've been on Fycompa for over a year now and recently started Depakote. Depakote is helping with my Absence Seizures. I don't have any noticeable side effects with the Fycompa just makes me sleepy but that is fine cause I take it at bedtime. Good luck!

Hi @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member, Hope you're well. I tried Fycompa around Jan 2016 and it did make me very low. I do already have depression which is treated well, but Perampanel didn't bode well with me. If it's a case of needing to try, go for it and see how you feel; the more commonly reported psychiatric s/e was wanting to harm someone else (rather than oneself) but this was low. I know someone who has remained on Perampanel for over 6 months and it's been so effective, with no side-effects, that she's very happy. We are individually unique at the end of it, and I strongly believe in giving a tablet a go if you need to. You can always revert to older meds with the right guidance if you dislike any potential effects - keep up your positive attitude! :)
