Once, while waiting for my husband, who was having back surgery, I ended up in ER due to a nasty Grand mal right there in the Hospital.
The ER doctors thanked me for wearing my Medic Alert braclet.

I think it is important, just in case. My daughter has the dog tag.

I think I would be good if people noticed the bracelet if something happened like a seizure. I used to be wearing one pretty regular, but have not lately. I always have a form in my billfold with contact people, my current medicines, and my current doctors. This has helped a lot for calls when a seizure has happened, and a personal contact needs to be made,

Hi Hugo!

Though I have "controlled" epilepsy, only having seizures once every 2 or 3 years, I wear one ...

- It let's medical professionals and others know that you don't have a different disorder, especially if your syndrome isn't tonic-clonic.

- Those around you can contact your family and your doctor when you're not able to tell them. If you happen to be in status epilepticus, you won't be able to do so for a long, long time.

- I've found that others ask me what it's for, thinking I'm going to say something like "bee allergy." This gives me the opportunity to tell them, quite casually, about epilepsy, educating them and putting them at ease if a seizure should occur when they're not around. In short, it's a tool for promoting epilepsy awareness and even decreasing the stigma.

All the best,

Alison
