I just recently got put on the 750 milligram Keppra twice a day now he's upping it to 1000 milligrams twice a day have been on Dilantin but my levels got real dangerous and had to be taken off from it
I had problems when I was taking 1500mg of Keppra twice a day (3000 mg total a day). When I backed off to 2500mg a day, most of the issues went away and I've been fine on it for a few years.
I'm also taking Lamictal (550 mg a day). I do have some problems with tremors, lack of coordination and trouble word finding, but they haven't been bad and haven't impacted my ability to work. Mostly, it's just annoying.
At 8 years, I was put on Dilantin and phenobarbital. After further testing when I was 14, they switched out the Phenobarbitol for Mysoline. I was 18 before it finally came together - maturity, maybe? I went from at least 1 grand mal every month, and numerous petit mal to an occasional petit mal. Now, 50 years later, I continue with the same meds. This combination has worked for me and allowed me to have a pretty normal life. I give the credit to my parents, who never allowed me to think of myself as handicapped, and to God, who allowed me to survive spinal meningitis and the very high fever that caused my epilepsy, with my mind intact. Small price to pay, for me. I have 4 kids, been married 43 years, 4 grandkids, and work full time as an RN. While, at this point, I do realize that I have grown up with a handicap, I am so glad I was not even allowed to think about it. I know I have been fortunate and am thankful.
Beautiful testimony. Thank you.
