Does Anyone Experience Depression Or Mood Swings Along With Their Epilepsy?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Sometimes I experience depression and mood swings. I have been diagnosed also with a mood disorder and I'm curious as to whether it could be related to the epilepsy. Does anyone else experience this?

I also have depression and it really sucks. I do not want to feel this way. I do take antidepressants which seems to help however there are times that I just can't shake it. A very large majority of people who have Epilepsy also suffer from depression.

I have depression and take mood swings. I am getting surgery in my right temp lobe and the Dr said this may cause a change in mood so yes it is normal and no doubt to do with your epilepsy.
I hope things get better soon .

When I have breakthrough seizures, I tend to get real sad and angry for a bit. I do feel part of that has everything to do with what has happened to my brain during seizure. Could it be your meds bothering you too?
