It could be myoclonic seizures. They are a type of generalized seizure that causes sudden jerks while awake or asleep. They are similar to electric shock sensation. I have them and they are triggered by certain things like lack of sleep, being tired and flickering light. Myoclonic seizures can occur once, twice or more numerous times in a row. The form I have only occur predominantly in the morning/just after waking up and when triggered. For me they subside and stop. For others they may continue.Or It could also be just regular sleep myoclonus.

PLEASE!! see your Dr. I have night seizures during my sleeping time. I have had seizures since 79 and I am a Complex-Partial diagnosis. You need to be observed. I hope this helped.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member yes it is actually normal in everybody. It is a process of the body shutting down and going into REM. The brain interperates this as the body dying so it sends a electric impulse to the specific limb to wake it up. It should not happen when you are awake though. If you get these spasms more than once or twice in the same limb or right through the night then you should definitely see your Neurologist
