I will be attending college next year and am hoping I can get some advice or just personal experiences from those of you who were/are attending college with epilepsy. Who should you tell? How do you remember to take your medicine (this is a big one for me)?

For meds I have alarms set on my smart phone. Depending on your class schedule you may need to carry your meds on you. Angelica mentioned a tray I was not aware of. I have a variation of it (no colors) where you have a week's tray (4 dose compartments per day) and the "days" can be removed to carry on you and then reinserted to the base when you are back home.

Most colleges have an advocate for students who may be able to help you if you need accommodations or some help because of your epilepsy/disability.

Personally I don't shout out to everybody that I have epilepsy. A bracelet/necklace could be an idea... Even if you let instructors/staff know about your seizures no guarantee on what they may do.

It depends on your personal choice on who to tell and what not. I also think for medication taking to be well organized. I still have trouble keeping track of everything. I have a case that has the specific days and times of day. They are colored coordinated and separate by days. Be positive and determined to be organized.

You can get a watch with multiple alarms or set your phone. Tell the nurse, your professors and people you'll be around.

You should tell your college nurse staff about your condition if your college has nurses. I take my medication morning and night, approximately four am because it makes me tired and approximately seven at night. I have two trays labeled morning and night thanks to my genius mother. Your college should let you carry medication if it's necessary. Just inform the nurses incase you were to have a seizure so that they would know what to do and it's a good idea to tell them your meds as well as med dosage. Hope I helped, I've got a note in my wallet with my med and med doses and med allergy.
