Memory
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone have memory issues? My daughter is 10 and in her final year of primary school. She is having alot of trouble remembering lessons so homework is getting traumatic....and to make it worse she has SATS in May.

Major bad problems with memory. Mine is because my epilepsy is affecting my hippocampal area. Which is the part that is responsible for making new and keeping memories. You may want to have an MRI done to have that checked. It's called hippocampal atrophy.

I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 12 and my memory has slowly worsened and I've been told it's most due to the medicine that I'm on which is depakote. I'm currently trying to get off of it because I am now 30 and it's gotten way worse within the last 5 years. Hopefully this helped

I have complex partial seizures from the right temperal lobe. I've also had 2 diffrent temporolobectamy surgeries from the brain wich didn't help but I have very bad short term memory. I could be talking to a person and right after they say their last words and it's time for me to speek I would have to ask them what we was we even talking about because my mind goes blank all of the time in just a snap of a finger. It's hard dealing with it and I pray that it doesn't end up like alzheimers disease or anything because I'm just 40 yrs old and has been dealing with it for 32 yrs of my life.

Before the Epilepsy hit me full throttle, my memory was fantastic! After the epilepsy, between the seizures (complex partials), the meds, and finally, the removal of where the seizures seemed to stem from (a portion of my short-term memory storage) my memory is a huge issue. I find it somewhat ironic that I have to remind the relatives without memory problems (caused by medical issues) to write things down for me, a person who has legit memory issues.
