What is the difference between non-epileptic seizures and and epilepsy? ..I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was a kid, but now that I've read about non-epilepsy, I feel like I was misdiagnosed ; and have them because of PTSD.
Should I tell or ask my doctor? Or get a second opinion?
My mom is super over-protective and usually the one
who likes to be in control of things; especially when it comes
to choosing doctors (even though i'm 30!).
Thanks for your time!
The difference is what most people have been saying...An epileptic seizure is really when the seizures continue, and a non-epileptic seizure is one or two and it doesn't happen again.
You have every right to bring up your concern to your current doctor or get a second opinion from a new one. Keep in mind though, your PTSD could be causing epileptic seizures. It's sort of like a trigger. My anxiety and stress trigger mine. Epileptic seizures isn't always JUST epilepsy, sometimes it's linked with something else. BUT if you are having questions like this I would definitely go and talk to a doctor about it. You can find out a lot of new info just by going to a different doctor. ๐
You can have a seizure from a high temp called a febrile seizure or as in the case of my nephew whodied last year because of swelling of the brain and having the brain shift(non epileptic)
I've learned epilepsy seizures are when they are on going and you have them frequently. A seizure is the same as an epilepsy seizure only they aren't frequent and don't come back regularly.
From what I've learned being epileptic and having epileptic seizures is when you have multiple on going seizures frequently. Seizures are when you just have one or two and are not frequent.
My daughter (diagnosed as a child as having epileptic seizures and relatively controlled by Epilim) however over the last 5 months she has been having multiple seizures. A recent eeg shows that they are now non epileptic seizures. Not a disturbance of electrical brain signals. Our next option is to check if there is any organic cause. This will involve MRI of her brain. If that comes back clear, then we will have to look at possible psychological problems, causing her any stress, anxiety etc. Does any one have an ideas or suggestions, would be interested in hearing yr thoughts x
