I've been very lucky and found someone who is very accepting of my condition. He works in the medical field so I think he has a better understanding given that he is exposed to it at his work. We began living together about a year ago, during my time of transitioning from my home to his I was under a lot of stress and began having breakthrough episodes after being 2 years seizure free. I was switched from Zonegram to Lamictal, ever since I feel like a brand new person. My question is, for those… read more

Yes but you have to learn how to control your anger by tools like counting back from ten. I know it sounds childish but it works especially if you stop right where you are and close your eyes and count backwards breathing slowly as you go. As for the crying find the thing that makes you most happy and when ever you get like that use it as your guide to pull you through. For me it is holding my children.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member, Let me say first. My seizures are due from a brain tumor. I have had 3 brain surgeries. Two were laser surgeries. The surgery consisted of a laser killing the part of the tumor that causes my seizures. Since the second laser surgery, I have been 7 years seizure free. That said, The laser killed the part of the tumor that was causing the seizures. However, the tumor is still there. One of the side affects to the tumor are what you described above. The tumor can cause me to "fly off the handle. I am on Lamictal and have been for awhile. So far, there has been no proof of the Lamictal causing any mood swings.

I have used CBD, Epidiolex for over 5 years and stopped all other AEDs because of side effects. Everything seems to not agree with me i still use Valium as a rescue when auras start coming. I'm lucky in a way as I get a good 15-20 minutes of tinnitus, hallucinating and so I get sat down or in a safe place ( I have TLE). Regarding CBD apart from mild tiredness it changed the frequency of seizures by 90% so I'm very lucky. My neuro fought for 2 years to get Epidiolex as its meant for epilepsy in children ! Good luck with finding some ?

You are lucky. I had a 12 year marriage to someone I thought was understanding of my epilepsy. He too was a medical professional. But guess what, he allowed me to be seizing, unconscious, no food, no water for four days, finally my son called an ambulance. I almost died. I think he wanted the insurance money. I am suffering from PTSD from the incident two years ago. I live alone now and feel safer than when I was with him.
