Sharing Seizures With Your Kids
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone in your family have to have seizures in order for you or your children to get it ? And Since I have seizures what's the possibility for one out of my 3 to recieve what I have?

Tiffanie I have 2 daughters and was worried they might start having seizures as they grew up, but they are both fine. When I was in college I had heard of one type of seizure that might possibly be passed on but they really weren't sure.

I'm the only one in my family with seizures, not even any relatives have them just me.

I have always been told that seizures can come from various ways. Mine was started at birth because mom had hard labor which caused lack of oxygen. I outgrew them when I was 5 but was hit by a car when I was 9 and damaged the left front tempura lobe, which has been my reason for seizures my whole life. My oldest son had them but it was from him rolling off the bed when he was first beginning to roll. After that he had them only when his temp was above 101 when he was sick. From all the years and talking with people, some women said it came from their change at age 40 to 55, mine really started at puberty when I was 13 (grand mal) others said from a serious sickness or sports injury. I haven't heard any that come directly from passing onto others from the family

That question is still open in my opinion, I don't think anyone really knows the answer to it. Look at the link that Sams Mom has it point it being likely but when I read it the possibility is so small it doesn't lead to an actually solid answer it is very vague to me. More of a hit or miss link which leads to no real answer.
