How Many Of You Who Have Seizures Were Born Premature?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I know a few people that were born premature and either have migraines or seizures or both.
I was born 6 weeks early but had a healthy weight. I think my seizures are caused from a fall from a tree.
A cousins husband was a premie and has headaches and seizures.
My daughter in law was a premie and has seizure.
My second cousin was a premie and she has migraines. Her sons were born early and have migraines.
Just wondering if there is a connection in premature births and migraine/seizures.

me. I was a twin and not ready to come out of the womb. I think my sister pushed me out. I needed heart surgery. I had a seizure or two at 3 and a half months, right after the surgery. I did not have another seizure until I was 17 years old. Now I am 40 and have some sort of seizure nearly every day.

I was born premature. I have complex partial and partial with secondary tonic clonic seizures. I started my seizures at 6 months. They weren't comfirmed til i was 8 by my grade 2 teacher I would have several blank staring spells on daily basis. I would lose awareness of my surroundings. My first tonic clonic was two months after, my seizure had similar symptoms of repeating phrase but consequently i was unable to see followed by movement of my lip and body. I get headaches and have short term memory loss i struggle remembering day to day stuff. I also have an intellectual learning disability.

My twin sister and I were both born premature at 3 lbs. Only I have Epilepsy and she doesn't, I also have migraines ontop of it. I had my first febrile seizure was when I was at least 1 years old, was having random space outs here and there, then when I was 11 I had my first grand mal seizure.

My younger brother (now 30) was born prematurely but has not had any problems with either seizures or migraines. I was born "on time" and do. The Drs. Believe my seizures are caused by me having meningitis when I was 4. It was 25 years later when I had my first grand mal. They say I had partials growing up because I tended to "space off" once in a while.
