Emmetsburg, IA

Has anyone ever had multiple LiTT surgeries? I understand it’s possible other than getting the open cranial surgery.
I’ve had a LiTT surgery and it’s been mostly effective. I’ve had less seizures, but even though they are much less, the few I have now are unexpected and VERY intense! I’ve read if you have more than one it might find other things to burn out to help. Give me some thoughts or experiences? 😊

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member Thank you! I appreciate you telling me this. It’s been about 1-1/2 years, unfortunately. I was about to get my license back and now I just am afraid to do it! There’s been two very intense ones in the last 4 months. Beginning again after my wound was healed and all is why I think I might want to consider. I probably should have put my timing in! 🤦‍♀️😁

If you have only had it recently its possible that the brain is still going through the recovery process from the surgery. Its not uncommon for the surgery to cause seizures then the brain recovers and you will find out how well it works. All up you would need to wait about 6 months post-surgery to see how well everything went.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member, First, there is NO cure for Epilepsy. We are NEVER "Healed". That is why I say I am 8 years seizure free. Like I said, I am 8 years seizure free and my Neurologist hasn't stopped my meds yet!

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member thank you! The last mri I had said I was totally healed up and it should be finished. And my doctor has been happy. These just came out of the blue. I’ll talk to my doctor. My last visit he said one more year on meds before he tries tapering them off… and now I’m really afraid to! I told him, ‘look, I’m 67 and let’s just not screw around with this; I’ll take them the rest of my life!’
Within a month of being told I can drive again after 11 years, I’ve had 2 unexpected, extremely intense seizures. That’s the possible kicker, I guess. (I’m sorry your new start was so sorrowful… it’s hard to lose two loved ones. My sympathy. ❤️)
Anyway, I appreciate it. I will talk to my doctor at Mayo. He’s a pretty receptive guy. 😊

Yes. I have had two. The first time worked pretty good, but my neurologist and surgeon believe I started having seizures again because my girlfriend and mother died. So, I had another one. Since my last one on June 15, 2018 I have been seizure free!
