These would be anything you consciously do before the seizure begins. For instance, if I still have control of my limbs and motor skills I start squeezing the bajesus out of my finger nails. If I am still conscious but at the edge of losing it I’ll usually stand or move quickly in somewhat of a stiff jerky manner or say NO over and over until I fall or somehow

Members shared a wide range of personal aura experiences and coping strategies in response to the question about what people do when they feel a seizure coming on. Several members described tactics like dropping to the floor, deep breathing, drinking water, singing or talking aloud, activating a VNS device, or taking rescue medication to help interrupt or prepare for a seizure. A recurring theme was the importance of knowing your own warning signs, getting to safety quickly, and leaning on those around you for support.

Hello Powder, my name is Tom and what you are describing is called an Aura.

Technically, most people with epilepsy have Auras.
An Aura is actually a Focal Aware seizure that happens before a Clonic-Tonic seizure happens.

There are about 55 different types of Auras that effect anyone who has epilepsy differently.

Outside of being a type of seizure, it can also be used as a warning for us to know that a seizure is pending. It will give us enough time to find a safe place in the event that a seizure should happen.

The warning sign is a funny feeling or sensation that the person will experience.
I hope this helps.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member as was said not all of us are lucky enough to have auras, and those of us who do don’t necessarily have them all the time. An Aura can be anything from the smell of something burning when you’re somewhere in fresh air, talking to yourself (usually repeating unconsciously). Time freezes. @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member thank you for making me feel more sane. I too talk to myself in the beginning of an episode, usually I’m trying to interpret the over amplified current from my brain. The most common phrase being simply NO. Thank you all for sharing with me, I appreciate you and think this question is very important.

My auras are an odd taste but I rarely go into a complete seizure after one. I actually had these auras before I had seizures.

Drop to the floor ASAP. Its the safest way to not get hurt.

I sit down or move away from anything dangerous that could hurt me or anybody else.
