Starting Keppra (levetiracetam) and feeling drowsy and less hungry? That's actually pretty common, especially in the early weeks of taking it.

Drowsiness and fatigue are among the most frequently reported side effects of Keppra. Many people find these symptoms ease up as their body adjusts to the medication.

A decrease in appetite can also occur. Some people find that Keppra affects how food tastes, which can reduce cravings. As one MyEpilepsyTeam member shared, "The Keppra made food taste like nothing, so I didn't crave food." Here are a few things worth keeping in mind:

- Drowsiness may improve after the first month as your body gets used to the medication
- Reduced appetite can sometimes lead to weight loss, so it's worth monitoring your weight regularly
- Never stop or adjust your medication without speaking to your doctor first

It's a good idea to let your doctor know about these symptoms, especially since you just started. They can help figure out if any adjustments are needed and make sure everything is on track.
