I’ve been unable to drive since 2024. I get transportation from family and friends. But sometimes it’s just to much. I’ve been trying to learn the bus stop system here in town but it’s a puzzle. The first bus stop by my home is 1/4 mile. I definitely can’t afford an Uber to get me places. How did you learn to get your transportation without needing to ask family and friends?

My transportion is my family.
Uber is very expensive
I lost my license for about 6 months. At first, my son dropped me off and picked me up so I could take a commuter bus to my dr appts. When he went away to school, I tried ACCESS, the local door to door ADA transport service, but that took just as long. I tried the train service, but that turned out to be a nightmare when a freight train got stuck on the tracks!
I am thankful for these services but I am away from home about 14 hrs so I can attend a 20 minute appointment.
Now that I can drive again, sometimes I take the bus and enjoy the day in the city to save money on gas, parking, and stress of driving in traffic.

I have had really bad experiences w Uber the last few years even dangerous afraid to use them anymore.
I haven't driven since 2018 , after 2 separate incidents, and was advised to surrender my driving licence.I do have family or friends to take me to consultation distance from home, I am lucky enough to live in Stockport , Uk, with a good public transportation system ,I walk to local appointments, living within walking distance of my local hospital, which help with health a great deal. If you have to use public transport where you live, you should be able to find a schedule online. I have a disability travel card, which I use under the English National Concessionary Travel Scheme. I can travel with any where in England for free after 9:30am. Like other before me have written, I have have search the web, screen shots of bus maps showing routes with bus numbers on it, if I know where I am going I will start to plan a few days in front, if I need by train I can travel for free within my county borders to. I purchased a national rail disability card …£54 for 3 years. Which means I and someone else can travel for 1/3 of the travel fare.. I also claimed for Personal independence Payments, which will help towards travel costs. Like all, it is down to planning , collecting has much information and allowing extra time.
