Vomiting after taking levetiracetam can be stressful, especially when you can't get immediate medical advice. Here's a general guide to help navigate the situation — but keep in mind every case is different.

If you vomited shortly after taking your dose (within a few minutes):
- You may need to retake the dose, especially if you could visibly see the medication in the vomit
- This suggests the medication likely didn't absorb properly

If more than an hour has passed since taking your dose:
- It's generally safer to wait until your next scheduled dose
- By this point, most of the medication has likely already been absorbed into your bloodstream

Do NOT double up on your dose without guidance. Taking too much levetiracetam can cause serious side effects, including:
- Extreme drowsiness or fatigue
- Double vision
- Tremors
- Vomiting (yes, more vomiting — not ideal!)
- Changes in heart rate or slowed breathing To help reduce nausea and vomiting in the future, some MyEpilepsyTeam members have found these tips helpful:

- Eat small, frequent meals rather than large ones
- Avoid heavy or fried foods
- Sip liquids slowly
- Avoid mixing hot and cold foods or drinks
- Rest after eating and avoid vigorous activity right after meals

Always try to reach your neurology team as soon as possible after this happens, so they can give advice tailored to your specific medication schedule and dosage.
