It always varies. I may know it’s about to happen from eyesight changing and fingers going back and forth.

What sensations might you experience before a seizure?

Many people experience warning signs before a seizure begins. These early symptoms can occur minutes to days beforehand and may include:

* Headache
* Anxiety or sudden fear
* Confusion
* Irritability or mood changes
* Nausea
* Numbness or tingling
* Dizziness or lightheadedness

Some people experience what's called an aura, which is actually the first part of the seizure itself. During an aura, you might feel tingling or numbness in your arms, legs, or other body parts - exactly what you're asking about.

Other aura symptoms can include a rising feeling in your stomach, sudden fear without cause, déjà vu, racing thoughts, or phantom sensations like seeing, hearing, smelling, or tasting things that aren't there.

A MyEpilepsyTeam member might describe their aura as a vague sensation they've experienced before that signals a seizure is coming. This warning period gives some people 30-60 seconds to get to a safe place, pull over if driving, or lie down to prevent injury.

Not everyone experiences these warning signs though - some people have no awareness before their seizure begins.
