I've read a Medical paper comparing Home ambulatory EEG's with inpatient EEG's to look at efficiency and cost comparisons. It's the only one I've found with a mean (average) given for both. The average that they got (from 3500 tests) was just over 5 EEG Clinical epileptic events. with the vast majority being recorded in the first 48 to 72 hours.
What about you. Can you remember what they found with you?
When I had my 5-7 days inpatient EEG my brain seems to always fight. Everyday they would decrease my medication by so much, trying to get me to seizure . Yes I would have seizures but not any big ones.
They had to go to the extent to asking me if I wanted any Alcohol or foods that could trigger my seizures.
I was craving a regular Dr.Pepper. Since I knew that regular pop. Can trigger my seizures. But I had more trouble with diet. Pop/soda drinks.
That’s when it finally hit and made me have a strong severe seizure . It went thru 3 or 4 cans of Regular Dr.Pepper. My whole body was convulsing. I even came close rolling over the bed guard rails. But with the 6 maybe more Medical staff , they kept me from rolling over and off the bed.
The funny thing is when I first ever had a home 4 day eeg done and I did'nt even think it was needed, I didn't wright anything down then either and it wasn't until I had the follow up I was told seizures were picked up. My old Neurologist was always very vague so I had to really drag information out of him if I wanted it. I always knew that even on by base line eeg result abnormal reading does get picked up and that was always due to the short eeg tests I had.
So essentially this means that my result would be clear of seizures but technically it would still come back as abnormal due to the TBI. If that makes sense.
I don't think there would have been much point in them keeping me on a veeg any longer then what they did because the follow up was after a med change + follow up + slight adjustment to help make everything work better. To be honest if they were to do a veeg tomorrow I would say it would be the same result. I don't have all the problems I was having 3 years ago. Sure, I might have bad days but there mainly side effect related.
To answer your question, it really depends from person to person. I had 4 over 4 days and another time 3 over 3 days. So If I was at my worst over 7 days I would guess 6-7 (67 😂 if you get that joke) to be honest though I'm really just guessing because my meds have changed now and I don't get auras that I used to so I'm most likely very wrong.
For me, it was 1 seizure in the first four days. Then the night before I was being released I had the worst seizure I ever had. I had another when I fell asleep. The next morning as I was getting dressed I had another seizure as bad as the night before. My wife and sons were picking me up so they got a good idea of why I was asking for surgery.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member The way my standard eeg test would so up it is abnormal brain waves in the right Temporal. That's only the basic description. Its not really a seizure its just abnormal activity due to a TBI. In fact where the abnormal activity comes from is where the tbi is. This will always come up if there is obvious damage.
I would get many eeg tests over the years when I was younger. Its hard to say what the test results were like back then, but I do know that when I started working with my now old Neuro back in 2017 this whole thing first started when I reported limb twitching. From there I had two start a whole lot of tests.
I was doing tests since then so this was a big build up from that. They never liked my eeg results and they were only short ones. No seizures would have been picked up. But when your getting a abnormal reading and you're a new patient its needs to be looked in to. I ended up just getting them to do a MRI because they hadn't done one for over ten years. Then in 2022 I was lucky in a way that I had a TC because it forced them to do what they did.
The seer eeg I had is basically designed to map out how the eeg activity goes. When I did that test and was having seizures, they found out that my seizures start in the right TL then if the seizure gets worse it will spread to the partial and occipital lobes. It's basically like watching a Focal impaired seizure on eeg.
