Hey friends. I'm wondering if seizures are more likely or less likely to occur as you get older. I've also experienced them while asleep and I'm trying to figure out how or why they occur when I'm least prone to experience them. Thanks!
I am now 72 years old. I was diagnosed at 7. My former Neurologist after taking care of me for 40 years. My new Neurologist is with Yale Neurology. She works with an Epileptologist also. I see the Neuro every 6 weeks or so, the Epileptologist every 6 months. If I watch my Triggers, I do not have seizures.
My seizures seem to be getting worse and harder to control as I get older. I have read that if you started having seizures early in life. Your seizures are more prone to get harder to control. I have also read that some seizure medication‘s can become less effective overtime as your body ages. And in my experience I can have them any where any time. I do have certain things that make me more prone to have them, but still, I can have them anywhere anytime.
I know when I drank more coffee than water I tend to get them a little more frequent and when I am sleeping too so now I'm drinking more water and now they're not as frequent meds help me which the norm with me is once every two years hopefully since I'm drinking more water that it will be less than that
We are all diferent. I have less seizures since getting older. The medication may be helping this also and the things I havedone to have a healthier life.
Mine have become more frequent as I have gotten older. But I am also going through menopause, and who knows what the hormone changes may cause.
