I started my first job in years as a teaching assistant at this special needs school on the 6th of this month. I had a seizure yesterday which floored me so have had to call in sick today. I'm so worried the school will now think I'm unreliable. I really don't want to lose this job as I love it so much. I had my medication increased 3 days ago. I just feel a bit sad and worried this morning.

I've never had an employer think of me as unreliable bc of my seizures as I often outperform others. Just keep your head on straight & keep focused.

I think your employer will be understanding. It is not as if you planned to have this happen.

Tell you employer ASAP that you have seizures. As long as you disclose, they cannot fire you under the ADA. But you have to disclose. IMO, I would do this soon. As an aside, you aren't unreliable. You have a neurological disorder which you are doing all you can about. Don't be scared. I know it's hard but remember that you are an asset. No negative thinking! *hugs*

I went through that for year's @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , there's no way to curb other people's perceptions of people with our condition, I grew up in the 70's & 80's and I'm sad to say I haven't seen much change although their has been more of a exceptance than there was, unfortunately the work place hasn't been one of them... ๐Ÿ˜•

hi, i'm a afterschool daycare staffer. and i know that you have 'sick days'. thay can not fire you for missing a few days... what concerns me is too many sick days. idk the school rules (every school is different. mine is this... holiday payed time off. forced time off (school cancled/snowdays), sick days, and emergency days. the sick days. sick days are 24 hours or more notice. emergency day is less than 24 hours but you have to call the boss/supervicer/higher ups and tell um the situation and thay will discide if you are going to work or not.
question, what do you have? simple partials, complex partials (focal onset aware, focal onset impaired awareness), absentee (petit mal), tonic, clonic, tonic-clonic (grand mal)? i say this cause i have 4 types in 1 seizure.
anyway... my advice, if you can text/call the boss/school... tell um the situation... and go from there. if you don't have the text/call option... go in and get a v line to your boss. tell him/her your situation and then go from there.
