@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member Epilepsy Foundation might be able to share some helpful information to guide you. Another place to check out is UAMS Health is they do have a neurology surgery center. Another link I came across to visit is doctor.webmd.com/providers/specialty/epileptology/arkansas then find the area closest to your location that can provide an epilepsy specialist. I have seen them listed when going through the research on the Internet so I know they are there. I hope the above information is of assistance, will keep my thoughts and prayers with you both!

Carolyn , try getting a hold of the Local Epilepsy Foundation. They. Could possibly help you find a doctor ( Epileptologist ) nearest you or a good Neurologist.

If your Daughter needs insurance, get a hold of of your County Social Services. Find out, if they have any Medical programs or Medical Assistance.

You could also look into SSI / SSDI , through the Social Security Administration . That may take more than one try to get her on it. May have to even use a Disability Law Firm .

Hope this helps.

I agree even if driving a distance. I've had epilepsy for 25 yrs and were somewhat controlled. However last 3 yrrs they occur monthly or twice a month, neurologist I've had for years couldn't understand why and he just pushed more medicine which didn't help. He couldn't explain why increase, I wasn't content with that so I seeked another opinion. I found another one and travel 6hrs, however I've gotten alot of answers with new neurologist and very happy with him. So now he handles my care and knows I live a great distance so offers see my virtually, just wants see me in person at least one time a year. The drive there and back is well worth it as I've gotten alot of answers and learned alot more about epilepsy my prior neurologist never told me.
So definitely advice getting 2 or as many opinions you need too. As my prior neurologist said was that a good neurologist will encourage a second opinion if patient is wanting that. I truly believe that, seek advise elsewhere

Is she seeing a neurologist with strong epilepsy training? Because epilepsy is still vastly not familiar to many doctors, see such a neurologist is critical to its treatment. Thus is especially true of grand mal, of which I have. If it means travelling a good distance, I have found that it is well worth the effort. Hope things improve for your daughter as grand mal is a difficult epilepsy to live with.
