Do You Search For Drugs To Make You Feel Better Or Do You Search For Drugs To Find Out Why They Were Prescribed?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I do not like any drugs. I never take pain medication, unless it’s Ben-Gay or Icy Hot. I take Tylenol if needed, but only take the prescribed dosage and stay in bed.

I research my medications to look up the side effect to be aware of. Although that won’t mean I will experience all the side effect symptoms.

I always use www.drugs.com

There are 3 (or more?) websites that will check drug interactions and that's been a go to for me.
The massive quantity of medications available make it difficult for physicians to know everything about them. Many medication interactions haven't even been researched unless something becomes a red flag when a patient has a negative reaction.
Pharmacists are educated to understand and warn about drug interactions but there are so many new prescription and over the counter medications that it's difficult even for them to keep up.

I often use CBD for pain and should have researched taking it right after a cortisone (Nuflexxa) injection in my knee. When I began feeling "strange" and a bit nauseous I checked the interactions site. There it was! A warning that they should not be used together.
Simply Google "drug interaction checker". Often the responsibility for drug safety can't be assumed and falls on us.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , There was a medication ( called Felbatol , I think ) my Dr. And I talked about changing to. I was almost for it , until he mention about a possible health condition, It could cause. That’s when I decided not to try it. That was 20+ yr’s ago, when it was fairly new.

Today they have taken it off the Market , because it caused more than one health condition and some people died . Back then, it was two or three yrs. before Internet was available

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member, I research all new medications and told my GP doctor I was not going to take one medication because one of the side effects was perhaps having a seizure.
