Years ago I had mood problems causing me to be temperamental which triggered my seizures at school, making my life even harder to live with, cause no one understood my health problems, I was put on <a href="/treatments/valium">Valium</a> as well as phenytoin ,and I was ill treated by my family, and at school cause I had a seizures, but now I live alone only take anticonvulsants and I feel calm and relaxed, over 50 years later .

Interesting information and very relevant for me right now, i have temperal lobe Epilepsy and my Daughter is having a troubling time on and off for six months now including extreme anxiety, unexplained fear, depression, withdrawal and self harm. She is on a waiting list for a mental health assessment,she isnt diagnosed with Epilepsy and hasnt had a seizure which i know of, at her age i didnt either. Can you maybe share anything else that maybe relevant.many thanks.

Well I can't stand to much noise like high pitch noise. The first brain <a href="/resources/vns-therapy-r-vs-the-rns-r-system-for-epilepsy-whats-the-difference?mht_campaign=662ac81688495190cd79836b&mht_medium=keyword&mht_source=Answer">surgery</a> I had was my temporal lobe taken out at 14 years old. Cause I had static epilepsy. Medicine couldn't control them or anything. So that was the last thing we tried. It worked well for about six years. But I had seizure activity on the left side of my brain as well. And if I ever Hit My Head hard enough that could start them back.the doctor said. I did by accident I liked Riding rollercoasters . And I got on one called the bullet. It shot you straight up and you fell fast backwards. And when I got on it the force of the ride slammed My head back. And I hit it. And about two to three days later I was having seizures. But not as bad. Two to three a month. I was 18 when all this took place just about to graduate high school. I did. But I had a really big grandma seizures in Sunday class. I could feel it starting. I told everyone I got a <a href="/resources/top-5-myths-and-facts-about-vns-therapy-r-for-epilepsy?mht_campaign=662ac81688495190cd79836b&mht_medium=keyword&mht_source=Answer">vns</a> in My chest and a magnet. But it's not stopping the seizure. I could still talk and stuff. And gave the church My. Phone number to get a hold of my mom. I even wrote down what My medication for seizures. And what I was allergic to. Then I told them to call a ambulance and then I passed out. But that was when I was 20 years old.

Hi, LaurieWalla, I feel now when we are told we have mental health issues with epilepsy, we should be able to see a different doctor for a second opinion, to help us get the right support.

I’ve been told that I have schizophrenia before, although I don’t take anything for it. I do have bipolar disorder, depression and anxiety in addition to my epilepsy.

I have schizophrenia. When the temporal lobes are affected, it causes schizophrenia and deppression.

i have the same boat. i was a kid and had auras (warning seizures)(k-the begining of 2 grade) and i was undiegnosed. dr thought i had add/adhd (spaceing out and could not contantrate). i had the appt and then had my 1st grand mal. drs switch the add/adhd test to the seizure test.

Hi,Randysherman, I was put in detention at school when ever I had a seizure, sometimes I was in there for days without any food or drink, all I got was a Valium injection to shut me up. I know that was in the past so I try and put it behind me and look forwards to the future to make myself feel better, Take care. 🌷
