If You Are Unsure If You Had A Seizure How Do You Know?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

If you think you may have had a seizure but are unsure how do you know? Mine are the type where I will black out and stare for 1-2 minutes. I sometimes get auras where I don't know if I actually then had a seizure.

Any recommendations for this?

Good question. I deal with it all the time. If I have an aura I feel myself going under and can ask afterward how long I was staring. At other times, there is no warning. I don't drive much, bc they have happened on the road. If they are frequent, you could ask for an in home EEG with camera. Is it that you live alone?

Just evaluate the situation and come up with your own decision. If I noticed something like your situation, I looked at what was happening before and after I wasn't with the program and if it was a big gap, I must have had a seizure.

The best thing you can do for now is try to work out what the aura could be and watch out incase you get any of them. Depending on your diagnosis you can have different more specific auras depending on what epilepsy you have.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I do not have it happened often. It is just sometimes. I do not drive as I have not been seizure free for 6 months. I had the EEG with the camera a while back. I live with my dad and step mom currently. I am looking to move out on my own. I have asked the two neurologists their thoughts on me living alone and they both said they see no problem with me being on my own as long as I have safety things in place.
